B.B. King and slash: the thrill is gone

in the introductory section the guitarists are trading solos and one of them is using a slide, which is traditional in blues. they are using the blues scale and slash uses motific development to make the riff his own. at 0.43 in the video they show that there's a difference in the live performance to the original song where there is a horns section which is not in the original track. The horns play the turnaround. At 2.30 of the video slash gives bb king his hat  which is cool

you could interpret this as a sign of respect between two of the greatest guitar players of all time. in future I would like to implement the idea of a intro riff into some of my performances

Gary Moore: parisienne walkways

just like the first video Gary Moore also does an intro riff which is very common in blues but you would have to be mindful with doing this in another genres of music as timing issues may occur. at 3.00 every thing cuts out and the audience starts cheering because they know what's about to happen, and then he uses the amp feedback to sustain a note he's just played for a long time. another point to bring up is the colours. everyone on stage is wearing black and Gary is standing there with a bright orange guitar which makes him stand out as he is the star of the show.

practice logs

6th October 2023

this week me and Zach decided we wanted to do some blues guitar for our performance. so we sat down and played guitar and tried to come up with ideas of what we could play.

13th October 2023

this week we continued brainstorming ideas and coming up with chord progressions that we could play. and we ended up with these chords: E maj, G/E, A/E and two turn around chords: C, D and then back to E maj.

20th October 2023

this week we figured out what key we would be soloing in so we just practised soloing over the chords that we are using. we decided to use electric guitars for practicality and mainly sound as its easier to use effects with electric guitars.

27th October 2023

this week we continued to practice are solos and making live performance preparations and decided what guitars we would use and we wanted them to sound.

17th november

this week we did our final practises and got ready for our performances. but we also decided that Zach would be the one soloing and me playing the chords as he was just better at it than I was and I probably needed a little bit more practise.

Evaluation

I'm not a big fan of performing but I thought I would give not a go I'm glad im did it but I didn't feel like I was prepared to do it but I gave it a go even though I was quite nervous. if I was to do it again id probably need to practice a lot more and maybe even video my rehearsals to identify which parts are good and bad this will able me to improve as I can see what I am doing wrong. but overall it was a decent performance would just liked to have been a bit more prepared

Health and Safety

Howard had an SPL meter to check the volume levels ensuring the students in the canteen were not exposed to excessive noise levels. We made sure the leads and cables were tidy so there were no trip hazards. The speaker stands had pins in to stop them from collapsing. Singers were encouraged to drink water to look after their voices.

Tape was used to seal off the area so students did not cause a hazard to people playing.
